Why do we use Soy wax?

While soy candles look and smell similar to their paraffin counterparts, they offer distinct advantages. Here at Notes of Northumberland we have switched from our natural wax blend to 100% Soy wax and the difference is staggering. Here are some of our top reasons for choosing 100% Soy.

Natural

Soy wax is made from soybeans, a natural, renewable source. Paraffin wax, which is a bi-product from the production of petroleum, relies on our dwindling supply of crude oil. Soy wax is a carbon neutral product, meaning you can enjoy your candle knowing it hasn't had a negative impact on the environment. Our particular brand of Soy wax is produced in the UK, it is biodegradable and vegan friendly, no animal products are used and no animal testing has been carried out in its manufacture.

Cleaner Burning

A candle made from soy wax burns cleaner with very little soot released as the candle burns. Paraffin candles often create a significant amount of black soot that collects on the jar, as well as on your walls and other surfaces of the home. Soy candles are also non-toxic, so they won't release toxins, carcinogens or pollutants into the air, which means it is less likely to trigger allergies. Soy washes away with warm soapy water making it easy to reuse your container once the candle has burned down.

Longer Lasting

Soy candles typically last 30-50% longer than a paraffin candle of the same size. The reason behind the longevity of soy candles is the cooler burning temperature of the soybean wax. You may pay more for a soy candle initially, but the longer-lasting burn means you won't have to buy new candles as often.

Better Scent

Soy wax holds onto the scent from fragrance oils, which are often used to scent candles. The wax burns more slowly so the scent is gradually released; there won't be an immediate wave of strong scent. This creates a more pleasant atmosphere for most people.
